Why is it important to the public for engineers to be licensed?
PE licensure is required to protect the health, safety and welfare of the public.
We want to know that the individuals who are designing the facilities, machinery
and everything else that touches our lives are competent to do so.
A license proves that you have met the recognized standard of competence in that field.
Not only does it provide opportunities and respect, it's a credential you'll carry with
you for life. It’s a license that is nationally recognized and one that will follow you
throughout your career.
And, it is also a legal requirement in order to offer or provide engineering services to
the public.
Not convinced? Well licensed engineers are provided:
- Ability to work as a consultant
- Increased career opportunities
- Professional respect and credibility
- Financial incentives
- Potential advantages in the event of downsizing
